Proud Mum Moment From Depressed and Anxious Child to Archie Finalist

I am incredibly honored and thrilled to share a heartwarming story of transformation, resilience, and artistic achievement that encapsulates the essence of what we do at U-Turn Anxiety. This journey is particularly special as it demonstrates the profound impact of empowering the parents who then become the drivers of the change they wish to see in their home.

Recently, I was nominated for the Global Women of Influence Award 2024, an incredible honour that I deeply appreciate.

While receiving such recognition is a blessing, nothing gives me a greater feeling of achievement than witnessing the incredible transformations within the families I support. Today, I want to celebrate Katherine and her daughter Tilly.

18 months ago, Tilly was facing debilitating anxiety. Her mother, Katherine, was at a loss, despite her background in wellbeing. Tilly’s anxiety had become so intense that she refused to go to school and was overwhelmed by a variety of fears and ailments. Katherine turned to me for support, seeking a way to better help her daughter.

Katherine began her U-Turn journey and upgraded her skills to become the best parent she could be. As a result the way Katherine has helped her daughter to manage and overcome her anxiety has been nothing short of remarkable. Through our guidance and her dedication, Katherine has transformed the way she supports Tilly, helping her to build confidence, resilience and find her true creative self that she fully aligns with. This transformation has been astounding.

Listen to Katherine’s Success story below.

Fast forward 18 months to today, Tilly is now a finalist in the prestigious Young Archie competition, a junior version of Australia’s renowned Archibald Prize. Her entry, a beautiful portrait of her late grandfather, Peter Carson, a landscape painter from New Zealand, stands out among over 4000 submissions from young artists across the country.

Katherine recently shared her joy on Facebook: “There were over 4000 entries from budding young artists this year! Tilly is already a winner, no matter what the final outcome is. Most importantly, this kiddo twinkles and sparkles when she’s creative. Following her true passion is the win!”

It has been an absolute honor to be part of Katherine’s journey and to see Tilly’s incredible growth. Their story is a powerful reminder that when parents receive the right support, ‘Helpful Help’, they truly can make a profound difference in their children’s lives.

By upgrading her skills, Katherine has empowered Tilly to transform her anxiety into a source of strength and creativity.

As they prepare to head to Sydney for the award ceremony, I couldn’t be prouder of Katherine’s unwavering willingness to learn and implement the things we teach. Katherine is an exemplary parent that has demonstrated that we the parents are the key to unlocking our children’s full potential. Tilly’s journey from anxiety to revealing her artistic achievement is a testament to the power of this.

The Hidden Impact of Emotional Trauma on Childhood Anxiety

Many of us grew up hearing phrases like, "Why are you crying? I'll give you something to cry about!" These words, often said in frustration, may seem harmless in the moment but can have lasting effects on a child's emotional well-being.

Why I Became Resistant and Anxious at School - A Client Story

Have you ever wondered why your child seems to resist school more and more? The anxiety, the reluctance to get ready in the morning, the excuses not to go—it’s enough to make any parent worry. What if it’s not just a phase? What if something deeper is at play?

What’s Wrong with Asking “What’s Wrong?”

As an anxious child I used to think there was something seriously wrong with me. In fact, for four decades I kept this a secret until I discovered there was nothing wrong with me at all. My parents would often ask…… “what’s wrong, now?" And I cringe as I recall myself saying this to my sensitive, big feeling daughter.
