How To Reduce Anxiety And Give Your Child The Comfort Of Certainty

This video shows you the 3-step strategy to reduce anxiety in your child, which will help create calm in yourself and your entire household.

Sometimes trying to reduce anxiety in your child seems like ground-hog day, where you keep going around in circles.

Day after day, you feel like you’re walking on eggshells, trying to keep your child calm.

Trying to avoid saying or doing something that will trigger their fears.

It’s not just you, either. It affects your whole family. You’re all trying to keep the peace or you’re cleaning up the emotional mess after an explosion.

The anxiety is contagious. No one knows what’s safe to say or do. Eventually everyone starts to feel anxious, and the smallest thing can trigger a huge outburst.

Isn’t there something you can do to reduce anxiety and bring harmony back into your home?

Absolutely, there is!

It’s thefear of the unknownthat’s worrying your child. When they don’t know what’s going to happen, their anxiety goes through the roof.

You know how it feels. You feel anxious when you can’t anticipate your child’s triggers, right?

What you all need is a feeling of certainty. Certainty boosts confidence and eases anxiety.

Wouldn’t that be a good thing in your home?

Hello, it's Sue Stevenson here. Today I want to talk to you about how you can reduce the levels of stress and anxiety in your household.

Lack Of Uncertainty

So you're spending your day feeling like you're walking on eggshells, trying to work around your child's fears and moods.

Trust me, I get how stressful this is. And let's face it, it can be downright inconvenient when your day's plans just get thrown out the window because your child's too scared to leave the house or go to sleep in their own bed or even talk about school.

In these moments, your child's really stuck in self-doubt, fear, and uncertainty. And it's even more difficult these days with so much uncertainty going on. So it's making things even harder for parents when your child's being irrational and they're refusing to cooperate for you.

To get you off this emotional roller-coaster and reduce the level of anxiety in your household, you need to bring a high level of certainty into your household. You can do this by having regular routines and by having a clear plan so your child knows exactly what to expect.

So here's three ways to bring certainty into your household.

Step 1 – Bedtime Routine

Firstly, come up with a going to bed routine and stick toit as best you can.

So this might be something like:

*PJ's on
*clean your teeth
*go the toilet
*story time
*then lights out and go to sleep.

And stick to a regular bedtime.

For parents of teenagers, please note that your kids especially need an agreed bedtime – a regular bedtime.
Kids who have regular bedtimes tend to sleep better, which brings incredible health benefits.

Which means well rested kids are healthier, calmer, and happier.

Step 2 – Create A Plan

Then secondly, create a plan together.

Talk with your child and come up with a plan together before doing things like getting ready in the morning or getting them to go smoothly into school or daycare.

Or you might create a plan for doing things like chores or homework or even doing their reader.

And I encourage you to ask your kids to have input into these plans because they're more likely to want to do it if they've had a say.

Step 3 – Mealtime Routine

Thirdly, have a mealtime routine and stick to a healthy diet. Research shows that kids are calmer and more cooperative when they eat a healthy diet and have regular mealtimes.

Summing It All Up

So just to recap, to bring certainty and minimise the stress and anxiety levels in your household, I want you to firstly come up with a going to bed routine and stick to it as best you can.

Secondly, create a plan with your child so your child clearly knows what the routine is.

And then thirdly, have a healthy mealtime routine.

Now, not only will following these three steps improve your child's physical health, but it will also reduce their anxiety levels, which means this will help your whole family feel more certain and confident. In turn, this will result in a happier and a much more peaceful household. And I'm certain that's what you want.
